Need to get off Suboxone

Subs have been good to help me off the Opana.  I am grateful.  I am taking 12 mg per day.  I have been on them for about 2 weeks, after my hellish detox from Opana.  What should I expect as I detox.  I am a bit nervous, given what I have been through.  I have been on them for about 2 1/2 weeks.

Thanks so much Friends,
Marie

why are you in such a hurry to get off?

all the people i know who have used sub successfully have used it for an extended period (years) WHILE THEY BUILD A SOLID RECOVERY PROGRAM AND BECOME WELL GROUNDED IN LIVING A CLEAN AND SOBER LIFE.

everyone i know who has treated sub as some quick-fix, silver bullet for the vampire of addiction have not done so well . . . in fact the last one i knew well in this category is now in the ground . . . his step-mother found him dead in bed christmas morning.

when i was active in my addiction i always thought that if i could get through being dope-sick that i'd be ok, that i'd never go back, that i'd "never let this happen again."  i was just so wrong . . . i was so wrong so many time.

it's one of my pet peeves, but what many folks call "the mental part," after the acure withdrawal is over, is really the toughest thing to get through.  it's a pet peeve, because to me "mental" implies that it's not real, that it's just an attitude, a way of looking at it, etc.  in fact, active addiction creates physical changes in the brain and actual changes in what is provided for the brain.

specifically, the brain builds new receptors to handle all the artifical neurotransmitters we give it, and it quits producing its own NT's (since the natural supply has obviously been replaced).  so, when we quit we end up with a brain that has a bona fide increased demand for certain NT's and a virtually non-existent natural supply.

a brain-full of empty receptors just $ucks.  on the bad end it feels like you have to fix it or you'll die.  on the good end, life is flat and empty and we feel like "if this is being clean, i was better off using."   all too often, we find that we have to use, just to even things out  for a bit, anyway . . . and then (since we're addicts) it's off to the races.

to me, early recovery (i.e. at least the first year) is all about staying safe.  it's not about rushing anything or proving anything.  it's about staying safe while we make the transition into sustained recovery -- learing how to live successfully without.  addiction is a relentlessly progressive disease that is ultimately fatal if it's not arrested.  early recovery is a fragile and dangerous period.  sub is a good safety net.

stay safe.  it's worth it.

I have always heard from aa/na people that a body full of drugs and a head full of na/aa/recovery, is not a good mix. Years......90 days of actual clean time will do wonders for the neurotransmitter and brain chemistry adjustment,no matter what opiate you are on.  My opinion is just get it over with. it is doable and worth it.Say you broke your back and had to be out of commission for 3 months. You would just do it so you could get better.

I would stay on it longer while you get your life back in order. Don't listen to all the bullshi t you hear from people on here about sub. Trust me when I say even if you stayed on it a few months it will be much easier to come off of then opana was. If you get off it too soon without a game plan your chances of relapse are very high whether you believe that or not. I am in no rush this time to get off sub because for me it's all that worked in keeping me straight. Ive done short tapers with sub and relapsed. Sub works better when used at least 6 months. There is plenty of research to back that up and anyone who says otherwise doesn't like sub for the obvious reason..that used it for a week or two Got off too soon had wds because of it and then relapsed. Id b mad too. Use ot the way its meant and not just as something u thought u could escape the opana wd with. That's not the case and I hope u weren't told by a doctor that was. Wd is enviable but if u stay on it long enough for your brain and.body to heal do a slow ween you'll be surprised..its not bad at all.

my experience with sub is not great. I believe if you have a game plan in place two weeks to a month is all you should stay on it because sub withdraw is hell i cant seem to kick the habit but i tried once and day 11 was worse than the rest

My experience on sub, was awful, was told to take too early, so went into precipitated withdrawal. But after a bad start, continued on. It gave me my life back. Hang in there, it will get better, and days will pass much quicker.

Catafu and addicted are dead right.the chances of staying clean using the CT method are very slim.the people on here who "just quit" are in the 0.1% of people who sucessfully make it.are you in that 0.1%? Only you knows.
