What are the right words to say to DH to get through?

My husband has been abusing prescription drugs on & off for some time.  We had a big blowout over it when I told his psychiatrist so that he could cut him off.  He promised he would seek help.  He lost his job & is getting depressed more & more each day.  To cope I can see he is back to his old games.  Today I came home to find him under the influence of something while he is working at home (his job ends at end of year).  His initial answer was he was just tired.  I pressed him, he said he only took Adderall.  I pressed him.  He said he took a Tizanidine.  Then he admitted he just took some more hence his sleepy out of it look.  I am appalled he was on the phone with a colleague like this & no this is not why he lost his job (directly at least).

If you've been an abuser in the past or had a spouse like this, please tell me something compelling I can say to him to get through.  I've threatened to leave but I know I won't so don't want idle threats.

kova is so right.  unless he sees has a problem AND wants to get help there is not much you can do.  addicts are notorious for the lies they can come up...what makes it so bad is they can make you believe them because they really believe them...i am sorry but unless you are willing to make a change for you then you just have to wait it out.  hopefuly soon he will get help.  good luck to you both.

Hi.
i know it sounds cliche but he really has to want to quit himself, otherwise he will tell you he did but keep hiding it from you.  i know, i've been there.  not on your end but being the drug abuser, and i have to admit that i became the best liar on the planet!  too bad i don't play poker (lol).  has he gotten any help for this at all?  no therapy?  no meetings?  could you get him to come on this forum?  it helped me tremendously, wouldn't have been able to come as far as i have without it.

love and light to you,
Kova
