How long ago did you stop taking them? Have you tried any OTC to help with the withdrawls?

I took Vicodin and quit CT 55 days ago. The first week was physically tough, every week after that was not as bad. Each day that passes is physically easier and easier.
My energy is kind of back. My aches and pains come and go. My plumbing (:>) is kinda trying to get back to normal.
however, each day, every day, I am working the battle from a mental aspect.
It is a battle worth every ounce of energy that you have, trust me. Life without opiates is life itself.

Linda T could you explain the timeline for your energy/motivation or interest in things coming back? I am going on day 11 and half of the day is good and half bad mentally. No depression, just cravings, boredom, no energy to do things or motivation.

Well I've been taking 7 to 15 7.5 vicodin a day for three years straight...on and off though for seven years. I'm on day four quitting cold turkey. I just ate three cheeseburgers from mickey d's. Either that will give you some hope....or make you vomit. I still feel crappy but eating like that was amazing.

36-60 hours is the worst of it for the short acting pills like percs....you'll probably feel better tomorrow, but you'll definitely feel better by Day 5.  I'm on day 21 off methadone and posted about feeling much better every week.  Improvements happen every day and I'm enjoying life again 3 weeks out.  Hang in there - if you don't, you'll only have to go through the last 3 days again.  I know that's blunt but it was the one thing that kept me going at that point - that I didn't want to have to do it all over.

Hi!  You should notice the WD start to let up after day 3 or 4.  The sleep and energy take awhile longer.  If you can, get this stuff at Wal Mart or Walgreens.....

Mag/Cal supplement
Hylands Restful Legs
Advil
Heating Pad
Epsom Salt for hot baths
Imodium for diarrhea and cramps
Gatorade and apple juice to stay hydrated and help RLS and leg cramps

It will get better!!!  PROMISE!  Hang in there! : )

You'll sleep again soon - that was the worst of it.  OTC (over the counter) stuff WILL help - try to get someone to go to the store for you, or make it yourself if you're able.

I have limited funds, so I appreciate not being able to get everything.  In order of importance during my own w/d:

Try some Immodium AD, it helped with the stomach stuff but also the other symptoms.

Ambien was a lifesaver a couple of nights, but good old fashioned Benadryl (the stuff with only one ingredient) or Unisom will help.  At 21 days I can sleep about 6 hours straight and it's w/o any meds.  Your doctor will probably call something in for you - just don't take it more than a week, you don't need another addiction.

Gatorade or some fluids are really important - you WILL get dehydrated and it WILL make you feel a lot worse.  I know they taste awful but do what you can with fluids.

L_Tyrosine - an amino acid I found at whole foods.  After about a week, when I was able to keep it down, I took about 1000mg in the morning on an empty stomach and it seemed to help with energy.  The only place I could find this was Whole Foods.

B vitamins - take with the L Tyrosine.  This will make you pee neon yellow, not to be gross, but I thought something was wrong with me.

Multivitamin, with food.  Food's important too.

Good greenery, if that's your thing, after about the first week and a half.  Before that it made me feel like I was going to have a heart attack.

Like I said, this is just what helped me.  Simple stuff you can have a friend get for you.

Sure, hope this helps. I was taking vicodin for 13 years !!! Yeah. So anyway, I would take from 4 - 7 pills (a combo of 500s,  750s or 1000s). I'd break them or chew them especially in the afternoon.
Days 1 -7 were the worst physically (just think flu and remember the flu was the #1 cause of death in the 1900s!)
Days 7-14 bad muscle cramps, and TERRIBLE heaviness. I just dragged myself around like a sorry sack of soot. ZERO MOTIVATION.
Days 14 - 20 I found this forum (thank you Lord!!!) and got my fight on. This helped my mood, but not my lack of energy. I was certain I'd never do ANY housework again. I was very irritable. ZERO MOTIVATION, did i mention crabby? Lost my Zoloft pill bottle. Got angry and quit taking that. (Bad idea, but I was on a roll and it's hard to reason with a ticked off addict).
Days 21 - 27 still fighting every day against cravings and Lies in my head. (my addiction was  talking A LOT) Especially at night or when I HAD to do something unpleasant. Around this time, I got drunk. DO NOT DO THIS. It almost screwed me. I was out of town, so I had no access to pills. WARNING: Hangover=relapse. A double downer!!! Do not get drunk especially if you are bored, you are very vulnerable.
Days 30 - 39 Started going to Celebrate Recovery one meeting a week. Kept coming here and learning and talking with peeps.
Days 40 - 49 Went to my second meeting. Quit taking Xanax and Soma. Kept coming here and talking to peeps. still lots of weird muscle pain (stess knots) in my upper back and shoulders. Super intense pain.
Day 50 - 55 So, yeah, I'm better physically and mentally. I spend time on the forum because it is my lifeline.
I say "this is my NEW NORMAL - get used to it." I say F You to people if I feel like it. (not good)And  I hate hate hate doing things that I have never done before CLEAN. Like going to "back to school" night with out the pill high. or going over friends house for bbq.
I am stronger and more "normal" as far as physical energy and motivation.
One day plus one day plus one day.
hugs and hugs,
Lindsay

Lindsay that did help. I have been off and on for 6 years. Usually about 40-50mg of hyrdo's.
Day1-2 were worst for WD
Day 3-5 were sleep issues
Day 6-10 has been up and down with motiation/mood/energy. I am hoping for a somewhat speedy mental recovery but I am willing to fight for as long it takes. I am able to do things that I did enjoy greatly on pills. The cravings are bad at those times but I also enjoy them. I am not going to let pills take away things I enjoy or had things I have to do. Eventually I will get some consistency in my mood/motivation and be back normal.  For now, Its the price I have to pay to get well. I just dont understand how my mornings are soo great then right at the afternoon its down, then workout and up for a little while then back down.

When I say off and on 6 years, I never made it 30 days so it was like strictly DT then give it some time and use. Fortunately, over a month ago I made it 20 something days off hyrdro's I did use tramadol to taper but was taking only 25mg a day at the end.

For short acting opioids, for me it is always around hour 96 and I felt like I was in the clear... like I would make it and the worst of the ACUTE withdrawals were over.

Hang in there and I'm glad you are feeling better!

I know exactly what you mean about the not thinking clearly. I still have moments like that! It does go away though. Getting out of the house to go see your girlfriend may help you feel better! I know getting out and doing things helps me feel better! Laying around always makes me feel worse!!!

You will be where you were before all of this, I promise!  The fact that you were on them for only a month is to your advantage. I know when you are in the throws of withdrawal it feels like it will never end, but it will! It is a constant process of regrouping! Falling apart and then getting yourself together again. Try to be kind to yourself with positive reformations too... repeat it over and over if you have to! Go get in the bath or lay in the shower.

Hang in there! YOU CAN DO IT!!!

That's awesome you are feeling great!

Just take it easy on the drinking if you do partake. I have drank before during withdrawals, but I've done a shot to ease the pain. If you overdue it you can be in a world of hurt the next day with a hangover and your body still trying to recover from its dependency on percs! Ouch! It will make you want to jump out of your skin... AGAIN!
