Vaginal and anal tearing/fissures

For the last 6 months I have been getting tearing (look like paper cuts) in my vaginal area (1/4 to 1/2 inch long). I get the tears at least once or twice a week and they last from 2-4 days, go away for a few days and then come back. They continue to occur in the same locations;
1. Inside the vaginal lips on the sides almost always in the crease (between the labia minora and majora?)
2. Between the anus and vaginal opening (perineum)
3. Above the clitoris in the "hood" area.

This tearing is not related to intercourse since my husband and I are unable to do that due to the pain it causes me.  There is no real pain otherwise. I am getting some minor bleeding when I poop due to the tears in the anal area. The entire vaginal area is very itchy and if I scratch or rub the skin at all I often give myself one of these tears.  It seems as if the skin is very thin. There are no other symptoms that I am aware of.

I have had blood work and a biopsy done. Some of the things that I was tested for were; genital herpes, lichen sclerosus, lichen simplex chronicus, lichen planus, vulvar vestibulitis.  All results came back negative. The biopsy tested positive for "healing ulcers". My doctor does not seem to know what the problem is and is contacting a specialist in Lebanon, NH.

My Dr. prescribed an estrogen cream which did not seem to work. I have not been on any other medication for this. I am looking for some guidance as to what this condition may be and how to treat it. My husband & I want to get pregnant soon but I would like to resolve this issue first. Please help.

Like the others, I too am grateful for this forum. I hate not knowing what is going on with my body, since I am very in-tune with it. I try to take care of myself despite bad decisions I make.
Here is how I fit in. This past Monday I went out with an old ex-boyfriend, who 6 years ago gave me HPV. Thankfully, I never had any warts but still carried the knowledge that cervical cancer is a bigger possibility for me, and tried to be careful from then on.
Well, I slept with him. After 6 beers and a night of fun dancing and his persistence, I agreed to go there so long as he wears a condom.
On Tuesday I noticed a tiny little cut near my vagina and brushed it off, thinking it happens occasionally and could have been from sex.
I slept with him again on Thursday, again with a condom. Mind you- the sex was not anywhere near as rough as it should have been to create so many cuts. Since then, it burns like hell when I pee, I have to gingerly wipe myself front and back and still be in pain.
Baby wipes is only about 5% more comforting than toilet paper, and baby powdering to keep out moisture...
I checked with a hand mirror about a few times a day since Thursday and the little tears/cuts are still the same, no changing color, bleeding or secretions that I know of, but they are around the anus, above the clit, and inside labia, in between folds. They itch like hell, like a yeast infection, but any satisfaction from rubbing/scratching is removed by the irritation of touching it. I try to keep them clean since I don't think I'll be able to see a doctor until mid week.
I am nervous. I immediately assumed it was the HPV and perhaps signs that I have cancer. I googled signs and symptoms and sure enough anal and vaginal fissures are a sign of cancer.
This seems to be an issue many women are experiencing and all of your posts make it sound that most doctors DON'T know what this is exactly.
Could this be a new STD? Are there any doctors studying this issue specifically? What can I do to take care of this until I do get to see a doctor?

I understand we have found solutions to make it not hurt as bad but can anyone tell me how to avoid it all together? It is happening more frequent and there is really no reason to it. On my period, off my period, with sex, without sex, rain, snow, shine, happy, sad.... I am telling you it is getting worse and I cannot continue to put medication down there for the rest of my life! I need something I can do or take like a pill. I have been reading this feed for over a year now and no one has been able to find a solution. It truely is scary!

Like many of you, I just wandered onto this site and am relieved to find I'm not the only one with this issue.  Thank you all for providing some surprising information that makes sense!

I just wanted to share with you all a product I have found that actually relieves the burning/itching and soothes the tears.  It's a cream, found in the femenine hygiene area of the store and is called AZO Itch cream.  It's a cream w/ a little oil in it.  It burns for a split second when first applied, then it immediately soothes it all!  I HIGHLY recommend it to everyone.

Best wishes to all in your search for relief!

I too suffer from painful itching and a recurring cut. I have treated myself for thrush with minimal results. After much internet searching i came to the conclusion of an sti.. not necessarily caused by sex also maybe using damp towels called Trichomoniasis.. i'm considering getting tested as it sounds very similar to some of my symptoms anyone else looked at this? every time i have sex i feel sore, throbbing and itching and then the cut appears for about a week, same cycle every single time!!

i hae the same problem and i got to reading theis post and i was thinking ... I just had a baby 4 months ago and got birthcontrol 3 months ago sence geting birth control i have been on my period .. Imagin that .. So for 3 months iv been bleeding and i cant stand blood so i use tampax every day ...which means i am never moist in my vaginal area because i constantly have a tampax in... I think its just my skin is so dry from not being moist for 3 months that when i pee and go to wipe the dryness then cracks .. I found that if you put niosporin pain relife on and leave it over night ur cutts will be mostly heald and theirs no pain when peeing .. But be careful not to wip har because u might rip the cutts back open . Find a bottle and spray yourself clean .. After your ctts heal theirs a cream that u put on your nipples that is for dry cracked skinn  u should aply that till ur vaginal area is rehydraited and nolonger dry and cracky ... Avoid useing soaps that take the oil out of your skin..... Hope this helps

After many years of continual yeast infections - and currently still dealing. I think these fissures are caused by candida. I have been to both western and eastern styles of doctors...I am amazed that so many women have these same issues but it's so difficult to find an answer. I think its an over production of candida and during our cycles at some points we produce hormones that feed the candida and cause the fungus to show up by itching and changing perhaps the ph of our skins making it prone to tearing. I am trying a candida diet and taking probiotics and an herb called pau de arco. It's not an easy diet but neither is putting up with weird tears in your vag area. There are many websites about candida and ways to reduce an overgrowth in your body.
