Just when you think it is safe~

Today i was put in a very bad situation.  One of my co-workers(and i use that term loosely) came to me and said "oh look what i have"...She then presents a bottle of narcotics.  Claims she has a sore throat.  My mouth instantly watered and i just backed up against a freezer.   Now mind you i am over 4 yrs clean and life goes pretty smoothly for me now but this just took me by surprise.  Once i gained my bearings i told her she needed to get that out of my face and to never do that again.  I then went and got my boss, told her what was going on and that i needed to call someone, my sponsor.  She came immediately.  We talked for about 15 minutes and i was okay.  The point i am making here is this addiction presents itself when you least expect it.  Always keep that guard up.  Know what to do when this happens which is why we speak of aftercare like we do.  Had i not had the tools i needed this situation could of been disastrous.  As for my coworker?  Let's just say she hasnt heard the last from me!!!   sara

It just happened so fast.  Today i am just chapped about it!   I have to plan my strategy here, either i go in with guns a blazing(meaning my mouth) or i talk with her calmly.  Right now the first option is overpowering the last one!!

Thanks for posting Sara,  I always look to you as a role model for everyone on here and never would have thought that a situation would have been presented to you like this.  I can honestly say that I am not sure what I would have done if put in the same situation.  Seeing how you handled this gives me strength and made me think how bad things could have been.  Stay strong and keep sharing.  Thanks Sara

I'm really glad you made it thru that Sara and took the steps that were right for you.. it seems we both have been tempted in so many days. although mine was family and yours a co-worker all the same.. Just goes to show that we can not live in a cocoon but we can protect ourselves with the truth and the courage to look the demon in the eye and recognize it for what it is. Thank you for being there for me last night,, I agree about Addict3 I'm finding the gifts he has to offer.. Guard up my friend.. lesa

Thanks Lu~~

Your right, we cant control what others do and say, all we can do is control how we react to the situation.

Sara-
Just when you think you're safe.....(:  Your story just goes to show that we only have THIS moment and the choice that we make within it.  It also goes to show that having a plan, the proper support, and your own best interests at heart are the keys to sobriety.  We cannot control life, and we ESPECIALLY can't control the behaviour of others.  This was a definite win for you today and I hope you are feeling proud of yourself!
I am proud of you, and grateful to have you here...
Love
